On Conservative plans to leave the European Convention on Human Rights; “no option is off the table”.

The comments came from Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice Dominic Raab, in the House of Commons on Tuesday.

Labour MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, Catherine West, asked “What his policy is on the European convention on human rights; and if he will make a statement.”

Raab replied “We will legislate for a Bill of Rights to protect our fundamental rights, prevent abuse of the system and restore some common sense to our human rights laws. Our plans do not involve us leaving the convention; that is not our objective, but our No. 1 priority is to restore some balance to our human rights laws, so no option is off the table for the future.”

He evaded questions on what the contents on the Bill of Rights will be, only saying that the Bill will be delivered in this Parliament, after a consultation.
