The government has unleashed a fresh attack on trade unions with the launch of a new consultation into facility time for civil servants.

It was stated that at least 6,800 trade union representatives could be affected by proposals set out by the coalition, which include:

  • Limiting the number of employees who are full-time trade union representatives
  • Making it the default arrangement that facility time is unpaid

  • Reducing overall facility time across the civil service
  • The IER has previously argued that trade union rights are human rights and will be following up on this news in the coming days and weeks.
