Govt to reduce migrant salary threshold to £25,600
14 February 2020
The government plans to reduce the salary threshold for migrants taking up jobs in the UK to £25,600 from £30,000, the BBC has reported.
Workers who have secured work at a lower rate may still be able to enter the country on a visa provided they would be filling a skills shortage. Speaking good English or being well-educated may also count in the favour.
The rules will initially apply to non-EU migrants, and be extended to those from European countries once the leaves the EU.
Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and Home Secretary, Priti Patel, are expected to detail the policy at a Cabinet meeting today.
