Govt set to introduce employment tribunal fees in July?
17 January 2013
The government seem to be gearing up to start charging claimants employment tribunal fees from July 2013.
It has mainly been estimated that the fees would come into effect in August, but a report on the Ministry of Justice's (MoJ) website shows the department will be ready to take payment online by July.
The MoJ's Digital Strategy, published in December 2012, states: "Fee payment (starting with employment tribunal fees): this will be introduced in July 2013, and we will digitise this service and the processes that support it."
Under new legislation due to come into effect this April, those claiming Unfair Dismissal will be required to pay £250 to issue a claim and £950 for their hearing. This fee rises if there are multiple claimants.
