IER releases new Comparative Review of Australian/UK labour law
26 July 2013
The IER has released a new Comparative Review authored by Australian academic Anthony Forsyth, who analyses UK labour law under the Coalition Government for an Australian audience.
The briefing was originally authored as a paper designed to be presented at a labour law conference in Sydney. Following a recent change in government, Australians are keeping a watchful eye on what changes to employment law they can expect. Will they go for the British model?
Forsyth recently visited the UK and spoke to experts including Director of the IER Carolyn Jones. His paper reports back to his Australian peers on the lessons he learned during this visit and recommends that Australia does not follow in the UK's austerity-based footsteps, which has resulted in the destruction of many workers' rights.
