IER responds to BIS whistleblowing consultation
30 October 2013
The Institute of Employment Rights has issued a response the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills' (BIS) Call for Evidence on the Whistleblowing Framework.
Author of the document Catherine Hobby, Senior Lecturer at University of East London's School of Law & Social Sciences, provides a detailed analysis of the Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA) and its effectiveness, pointing to the further weakening of protection for whistleblowers in the Coalition's Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill.
Advocating the strengthening of whistleblowing protection to encourage workers to speak out about wrongdoing and illegality at work, Hobby made several recommendations for the "radical reform" of PIDA.
