Despite Coalition plans to remove Agricultural Wages Boards and thus the Agricultural Minimum Wage from across England and Wales provoking fierce debate in the Lords recently, peers were unable to stop more conservative members from allowing the plans to pass.

Labour peers attempted to derail the proposals on Wednesday, but were defeated in a vote that saw 192 Lords vote to keep the abolition of the Agricultural Wages Boards in the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill. There was, however, strong support for keeping the Boards in place, with 163 peers voting to remove the proposals from the Bill.
