New TUPE Regulations 'will be announced by September'
05 July 2013
Jo Swinson, Employment Minister, has said the new TUPE Regulations will be announced by September.
The politician promised the new rules to HR processionals at a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Law Conference on Wednesday (03 July 2013), revealing her feelings towards the law - which was introduced in order to protect employee rights during transfer - when she explained "we can't get out of TUPE legislation because it already exists".
So the Coalition, unsurprisingly, seem to have set their sights on 'getting out of' as many business responsibilities as they can: sloughing off layer after layer of protections for vulnerable workers. Swinson said the new rules would be "simpler" and hinted that current workers' rights would be significantly diminished.
Leading experts on TUPE Regulations will be gathering at the Institute of Employment Rights' TUPE Update conference in October to discuss the new legislation. Richard Arthur of Thompsons Solicitors, a renowned specialist on the topic, will provide a detailed critical analysis of the reform, before senior trade union officials take to the podium to provide a view from the shop floor and share tactics.
