Workers priced out of justice

On 7 January 2015 the Guardian published an open letter submitted by a number of leading representatives from academia, the legal profession and the labour movement. The letter called for the employment tribunal fees introduced by the Coalition Government to be abolished due to the adverse effect of those fees on access to justice and on employment practices. Limits on Tribunal awards for unfair dismissal

The announcement today (Friday 14th September) by Vince Cable Secretary of State for Business, that tribunal awards for unfair dismissal will be limited to 12 months net pay or national median earnings (£26,000) is the latest in the weakening of employment rights in the UK. Of course, as has been stated and written so many times before, no-one for one moment believes that this will create one single job or boost the economic recovery currently being undermined by the austerity programme of the Chancellor. So why do it?

Osborne and Cable stack tribunal odds against workers

George Osborne announced at the Conservative Party Conference that from April 2012 workers will have to be employed for two years instead of one year to qualify for unfair dismissal protection.
